Describe meaningful images
Give images a short text alternative when they communicate information or perform an action.
Why it matters
People who cannot see an image need a text alternative to understand the same message, destination, or function.
How to fix it
Describe what the image contributes in this specific context.
Keep the wording concise and avoid starting with “image of”.
Use an empty alt attribute when the image is purely decorative.
Example
<img src="/team/samira.jpg" />
<img src="/team/samira.jpg" alt="Samira, customer support lead" />
How to check your fix
Check your page again with ibin. The issue disappears from your report once every place is fixed. Then try it yourself the way a visitor would.
- Check the page again and make sure the issue no longer shows up in your report.
- Try the fixed part yourself: with a mouse, with only a keyboard, and zoomed in.
- If you can, ask someone who uses a screen reader to try it too.
