Usually serious2 minute read
Write links that explain their destination
Replace vague or empty link labels with wording that tells people where the link will take them.
Why it matters
Labels such as “read more” become confusing when people scan the page or open a list containing only its links.
How to fix it
Name the destination or result in the visible link text.
Give linked images useful alternative text.
Make repeated links distinguishable without relying only on nearby copy.
Example
<a href="/services/accessibility">Read more</a>
<a href="/services/accessibility"> Read about our accessibility service </a>
How to check your fix
Check your page again with ibin. The issue disappears from your report once every place is fixed. Then try it yourself the way a visitor would.
- Check the page again and make sure the issue no longer shows up in your report.
- Try the fixed part yourself: with a mouse, with only a keyboard, and zoomed in.
- If you can, ask someone who uses a screen reader to try it too.
